It has been nearly 21 years since the 9/11 attacks, which means today’s K-12 students were all born after 9/11/2001 and effectively have no memories of the tragic events – and heroic responses – related to that fateful day. Educators have told us over and over that the 10 symbolic elements of the Freedom Flag have proven to be an effective teaching tool in classrooms to help the current generation of students learn about the complicated sequence of events which took place on 9/11/2001.

The Freedom Flag Foundation's educational support is expanding related to the teaching methods, creativity, and requests of individual school divisions. Please view below the general educational objectives and the educational initiatives begun to implement these objectives.

  1. Develop and support long term educational partnerships with county and city school divisions in Virginia and beyond, to use The Freedom Flag as a teaching tool... an authentic, respected symbol.

  2. Facilitate the use of the Freedom Flag in combination with World Trade Center Steel artifacts in classroom settings (at least one per state) as part of the National Freedom Flag and World Trade Center Steel Educational Program.

  3. Promote students' understanding and appreciation of the uniquely American heroes from the 9/11/2001 attacks as represented by The Freedom Flag.

  4. Join with School Partners to challenge students for service, leadership, and civic awareness, while helping them gain an understanding of the price of American Freedoms as told through The Freedom Flag Story.

  5. Encourage instructional leaders, social studies' specialists, and classroom teachers to develop educational approaches and lessons to share with other educators locally, throughout Virginia and beyond.
